FAQs

What is a Segway?

A Segway is a two-wheeled, self-balancing, battery-operated human transportation vehicle. It is operated in a standing position. It should not be confused with a scooter. It is a non-motorized, eco-friendly machine that uses renewable credit energy during its operation. The Segway leaves no carbon footprint on the environment.

A Segway is not only easy to ride, but it’s also a lot of fun! Imagine covering a lot of territory – without expending a lot of energy. That’s the beauty of riding a Segway. They’re clean, quiet, and you stand above the crowds. That makes for a great view of Alaskan scenery (even if you’re short!). Combined with our tour guide’s fun and educational narration, you’ll enjoy a memorable way to get acquainted with Anchorage and see the sights!

We are the only Segway tour company in Anchorage. Join us and have a once in a lifetime experience to tell family and friends!

Once you have booked your tour and it has been confirmed, please arrive a few minutes in advance of the scheduled arrival time of your tour. After you complete a waiver form, our certified tour guide will give you a thorough training until you are comfortable and confident. As soon as everyone in the group is oriented, you are ready to roll!

Bring a camera and a small bottle of water. When it’s really hot, we recommend sunscreen on exposed parts of the body and a lightweight pair of sunglasses. In Alaska, it’s important to wear an extra layer of clothing and consider bringing gloves with you as well. If it looks like it will rain, we can provide you with a plastic rain poncho.

Absolutely YES! We can accommodate a variety of special requests (family reunions, birthday parties, out of town guests, corporate events and team building, conventions, festivals, parades, grand openings and many more.

Riding a Segway is safe, even for children. However, we do require that all riders must be at least 12 years of age. All riders under the age of 18, must be accompanied by an adult (parent or guardian) for safety reasons.

Special consideration may be available for children weighing over 100 pounds. We also offer GoPets scooters as an alternative vehicle for children who fall under the age and weight restrictions or for a senior who feels more comfortable on a scooter.

The use of cell phones, pagers, PDAs, iPhones, text messaging devices, and other mobile communication devices are prohibited while operating the Segway.

There is a small hard-shell backpack on your Segway in which you may store your personal items, including a purse. However, large purses are challenging. We recommend only a small purse small or use of a fanny pack.

Reservations are required for every tour and tours fill to capacity on a regular basis. For this reason, we highly recommend making a reservation online or contacting us directly. We don’t want to fill the tour and miss you!

Walk-up customers will be accommodated in the best way possible based on guide and Segway availability. Lake Hood tours must be reserved in advance.

At this time, tours are offered only in English.

We do our best to make accommodations for returning riders once we get out on tour; however, please be aware that we prefer to orient all new riders first to give them as much time as possible to practice. While some returning guests wonder why they can’t simply be set up on their machines and left to explore, we ask that you remain patient while we allow first-time riders to get acclimated with a minimum of distractions or other riders in the training area. These delays are usually 5 to 10 minutes only at most and help to keep our training and our riders as safe as possible.

We do not rent Segways to individuals without a guide for safety reasons.

Unfortunately, due to the risk to both child and mother, pregnant women are not allowed to participate on Segway Tours.

In order to assure our riders’ safety, there is a minimum weight requirement of 100 pounds. The maximum recommended weight limit as specified by the manufacturer, Segway, LLC, is 250 pounds. In order to ride, your weight should fall somewhere within this range.

All participants are required to wear protective helmets and proper footwear at all times. Participants are also required to sign a waiver and release form prior to departure.

It is not recommended that pregnant women and any person with health restrictions, seizure disorders, intolerance or sensitivity to extreme heat and sun, or persons who have had recent prosthetic surgery participate in this activity. Riders must be capable of standing for extended periods of time. Anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs is prohibited from riding.

We do not go inside any museums on our tour; however, the Downtown Tour is a great option to get acquainted with Anchorage scenes, sights and places to stop by for a more extensive visit later. Free tickets to the Alaska Aviation Museum are included on the Lake Hood Tour and we encourage you to spend time marveling at the history of Alaska aviation after the tour is completed.

Our tours run fog, drizzle, light rain or shine. We recommend multiple layers of warm clothing for any Alaska activity. Summer afternoons can be in the 50’s. Rain ponchos are available for those rainy days and Segways are designed to run in light rain. In the rare case of a tour cancellation due to severe rain, we will offer space on an alternate date or time as space is available. Each Segway has a handlebar storage bag for cameras, light jackets and purses. Please leave bulky backpacks at home.

The Downtown Tour is customizable depending on participant ability, interest and comfort. The route may take you along Ship Creek, the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, through the heart of downtown Anchorage or a combination of all of the above. You can expect to ride on bike trails, sidewalks and city streets.

The Lake Hood tour goes around the float plane lake using the airstrip, trails and access road. The Earthquake tour cover many miles along the beautiful Tony Knowles Coastal Trail to reach Earthquake Park on a long, leisurely ride.
